ALDOT WORK RESULTING IN LIKELY TRAFFIC CONGESTION BEGINNING JULY 22ND

Guests coming to the BJCC for the “Tiny House Roadshow” or to the Uptown District using Interstates 59 or 65 this weekend should be aware of lane and exit closures on the interstate bridges that will likely cause traffic congestion.

The Alabama Department of Transportation announced closure of the right-hand lane on  I-59 northbound from the just north of the exit ramp to I-65 southbound (Exit 124A) to a half-mile north of the exit ramp to 17th Street (Exit 125A). Only the left lane will be open beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, July 22, until 5 a.m. Monday, July 25.

The purpose is to conduct emergency bridge repairs on the concrete bridge that has been deteriorating due to age.

During this weekend’s construction the following lanes or ramps will be closed:

I-59 northbound from Exit 124A to north of Exit 125A: The outside (right) three lanes will be closed beginning just north of the Exit Ramp to I-65 Southbound (Exit 124A) to ½ mile north of the Exit Ramp to 17th Street (Exit 125A).
I-59 northbound, Exit 125A (17th Street): This exit ramp will be completely closed.
I-65 southbound, Exit 261B: This exit ramp will be completely closed.
I-65 northbound, Exit 261A: This exit ramp will remain open, however, the outside (right) lane will be closed and the open lane will come to a yield condition to merge onto I-59 northbound.

“We have been in communication with ALDOT about the lane closure this weekend and encourage visitors coming to the BJCC to take alternate routes and drive with caution,” Executive Director Tad Snider said.
