Clear Bag Policy
New policy requires only clear bags beginning December 13
To enhance safety measures and expedite fan entry at Legacy Arena, the BJCC is implementing a clear bag policy that limits the size and types of bags allowed in the arena, starting with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert on December 13, 2017.
The policy adjustment is part of the BJCC’s regular review of security policies to ensure fan safety and is in line with industry standards. The policy is also intended to minimize time spent going through security checkpoints for easier access to the arena.
“Safety is a top priority at the BJCC, and we want our guests, employees and artists to have a great experience when attending an event here,” Executive Director Tad Snider said. “To accomplish that goal, we are constantly evolving and updating policies to meet today’s needs with an enhanced customer experience in mind.”
Fans are encouraged not to bring any types of bags inside Legacy Arena, however, the following bags are permitted:
• Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12";
• One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar); and
• Small clutch bags, with or without a handle or strap, that do not exceed 4.5" x 6.5" (approximately the size of a hand).
• An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate designated for this purpose.
• Working personnel, including accredited news media, will also be subject to screening and bag inspections.
An approved logo no larger than 4.5" x 3.4" may be displayed on one side of a permissible clear bag. If you do not have the proper bag at entrance, you may have to return to your vehicle as storage lockers are not available onsite.
Legacy Arena has had a limit on bags and containers for many years. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, seat cushions, luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size. Frequently Asked Questions
Why did the BJCC adopt this policy for Legacy Arena?
The BJCC cares about your safety and providing an excellent overall fan experience. The BJCC frequently reviews its safety and security policies to find ways to improve them. Many venues are moving toward clear bag policies, and the BJCC is in keeping with current industry standards aimed to enhance public safety and access by limiting the size and style of bags carried into the venue.
Are other venues limiting bags?
Yes. Entertainment venues across the country, along with stadiums for collegiate and professional sports, have instituted clear bag policies in the last two years. The University of Alabama, The University of Alabama at Birmingham and Auburn University require clear bags. Also, the NFL has had a clear bag policy in place for several years.
How does the new policy improve public safety?
The clear bag is easily and quickly searched and it supports the Department of Homeland Security's "If You See Something, Say Something" campaign.
What happens if I arrive at Legacy Arena and do not have a clear bag?
Fans that do not have a clear bag will be given the option to receive a free clear gallon-sized freezer bag at the security checkpoint at the entrances of Legacy Arena. Non-approved bags should be left at home or in your vehicle as we do not have lockers on site.
Are all purses prohibited?
No. Small “clutch" purses, no larger than 4 1/2" by 6 1/2", with or without a handle or strap, are permitted along with either the 12" by 6" by 12" clear tote bag or the one-gallon freezer bag. We encourage fans not to bring any bags.
What about diaper bags?
Diapers may be carried in a permissible 12"x6"x12" clear bag. Each member of a family, including children, will be allowed to carry an approved clear bag and a clutch purse into the arena.
If I have certain items that I need to bring into the arena for medical reasons and they won't fit in the clear bag, what do I do?
There will be designated entrances to allow screening of these bags and medically necessary items.
