R&B STARS BRING SOUL TO THE CITY IN THE HILARIOUS STAGE PLAY “WHAT DO THE LONELY DO AT CHRISTMAS”
“What Do The Lonely Do At Christmas” is coming to the BJCC Theatre on Sunday, December 18, 2016. The holidays are sometimes challenging for families and the dinner table is usually a huge place of drama. It’s a perfect blend of issues, humor and inspiration. In short, he’s had enough, and she is determined to be right, things at home will never be the same.
The show is made complete with both hilarious and power-packed performances from a star-studded cast. Rousing musical numbers bring the soul of the holiday to the stage.
The legendary Ann Nesby joins the cast of this all-star production. Nesby joined Sounds of Blackness in the late 1980s. The Sounds of Blackness were awarded two Grammys in 1991 and 1993, and Nesby sang on a number of their tracks including "I Believe," "Optimistic," "I'm Going All The Way," "Soul Holiday," and "The Pressure." she appeared in the 2003 film, The Fighting Temptations. Nesby subsequently garnered three additional Grammy nominations between 2004 and 2008. Meelah, of the R&B group, 702, also joins the cast of of WDTLDC. She is a cast member of TV One reality show " R&B Divas Atlanta. She released her first song as a solo artist named "Give it To You" which featured Musiq Soulchild. Love & Hip
Hop Hollywood cast member & Day 26 band member, Willie Taylor brings a silky R&B flavor to the production. Willie also appeared on the second season of Making The Band 4. Jamecia Bennett, daughter of the incomparable Ann Nesby and mother of season 5 American Idol Finalist #5 Paris Bennett. Jamecia Bennett carries the torch of being new lead vocalist of the original Grammy award winning Sounds of Blackness. Ray Lavender is an American R&B singer who goes by the stage name "Ray-L". He is signed to Akon’s record label Kon Live. Ray’s resume is vast including his work on the network sensation “The Ultimate Merger” and tour with the famed playwright Tyler Perry. Ray Lavender continues to blaze the musical arena through writing, producing, and singing.
This production has Alabama roots as it is written and directed by Birmingham native, Marc Raby. Noted as a unique and terrific addition to the Gospel Theatre genre, Marc Raby has entertained and inspired audiences through stories of laughter, love, healing, and forgiveness. The southern born playwright has managed to blend his faith and passion for theatre into a phenomenal brand of terrific urban theatre.
