BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) invites the community to celebrate Legacy Arena’s 50th Anniversary with FREE pre-concert festivities in the afternoon and a FREE concert inside the arena in the evening on Saturday, July 11.

The community celebration will honor five decades of concerts, championship sporting events, family shows, and unforgettable moments that have made Legacy Arena one of Birmingham’s most iconic entertainment destinations.

“It’s an honor for us to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Legacy Arena with our community,” said Tad Snider, Executive Director & CEO of the BJCC. “Legacy Arena has been a vital part of Birmingham’s cultural life and economic success. Being from Birmingham, I have many memories of attending events such as Birmingham Bulls hockey, UAB basketball, concerts, and championship events at Legacy Arena. Those experiences stay with you, and I’m proud we’re creating unforgettable moments for the next generation while ensuring Legacy Arena remains a cornerstone of our community’s landscape for years to come.”

From 3 to 7 p.m., guests can enjoy family-friendly activities, take backstage tours, explore art installations celebrating the arena’s history, visit food trucks, and create their own anniversary keepsake through a live screen printing experience with Yellowhammer Creative.

At 7 p.m., The Black Jacket Symphony will take the Legacy Arena stage for a concert celebrating the legendary artists who have performed at the venue over the past five decades. Guests will also be among the first to see the unveiling of a commemorative mural celebrating Legacy Arena’s 50-year history.

Glenn Bryan, President & CEO of Legacy Credit Union, said, “We’re proud to serve as the naming rights partner for Legacy Arena and support a venue that has served as the backdrop for countless memories shared by generations of families. For 50 years, Legacy Arena has brought people together, strengthened Birmingham’s economy, and created lasting memories for our community. Congratulations on 50 remarkable years, and here’s to many more.”

Originally opened in 1976, Legacy Arena has welcomed millions of guests and hosted many of the world’s biggest entertainers, championship sporting events, family shows, and community celebrations. Today, it continues to serve as one of the South’s premier destinations for live entertainment.
